I was having the same problem when I was looking for a CD player, but I
found (some of) the Blaupunkt's to be the sleekest ones out there. I
went with the Alaska II because of it's red lights and blue, backlit
display. It matches the interior of my 4kq quite nicely and sounds
pretty good. Crutchfield is having a sale on them now for $199. I have
pictures of the player in my car on my website: www.lehigh.edu/~amsk

Subject: Stereo Recommendations
I need a new stereo to replace the 1994 Sony that was stolen from my 88
5ksQ on Thursday.
I looked in BestBuy and Circuit City, but they were all to
gaudy-gizmo-flashy. Here's what I want.
-In Dash CD
-No mechanized door blocking the CD entrance
-Simple, black, oem style matching the interior (I think a stereo's
output should only be audio, not a multi-media laser light shows like
the current models all seem to have).
-Orange/Red illumination to match the Audi lighting
-Quality electronics and decent power and clarity since I expect good
sound but won't use any amps
The Blaupunkt models of the past came to mind, and I seeked Blaupunkt
out as a source of nice euro-simplicity styling, only to find out that
even they succumed to the freakish looking stereo fad going on right
now.
Anyone out there know of anything that fits this description?
TIA
Matt
