Yup- I don't know if APR sockets their chips or not, but I had
a similar failure w/ a GIAC chip- the socket failed, needed to be
replaced, until then, dead ECU. Fortunately, I had a spare ECU so
the car was not sidelined for all that time.
Have him call APR and send out the ECU. I hope he kept his original
ECU.

satisfied
with the paltry power output, so chipped it (APR) a couple of weeks ago.

A.M. on the commute in, he was parked on the shoulder. It just "cut out"
pulling away from a light, and won't restart.
