Drive shaft center support bearing

There apparently are any number of bearings that will fit the drive
shaft. The problem is the surrounding support. Depending upon the car (4K
vs 5K) there were, I think, BMW and Mercedes bearings with rubber supports
inside brackets that could be afixed to the Audi bracket or altered through
welding to replace the Audi bracket. If you search the subject on the
Audifans.com Google feature, you can find which bearing would work for
which model line under which circumstances. Javad
Shadzi < JShadzi at aol.com > machined a bearing support out of delrin
that would accept a family of bearings usually available locally wherever
you are and that would slide into the Audi bracket with something like just
a couple of sheet metal screws to keep it in place. Drill a couple of
holes and you're done (except, of course, for R&R) with no additional
fabricating. Haven't heard anyone else's BTDT than his report that it
worked fine. I bought one of his delrin machinings with the idea that I've
got it for when it becomes necessary.
