Just as with Audis, the purchase price can be far outweighed by the costs of
regular maintenance and periodic repair. Mine's a '62 model, short
wheelbase, Federalized bumpers, a bit loose in the corners. Doesn't leak any
fluid, and makes minimal noise when starting up from cold. Her top speed
isn't quite what it used to be, but she's proven to be a comfortable long
distance cruiser.
I occasionally get some squeaking or groaning noise...but it's usually cos I
took a turn too fast.
Anyway, make sure you get your new one checked out thoroughly. You sure
don't want to buy a high mileage model with burnt valves, loose bushings,
and high compression. Sometimes you'll find a lot of plastic in the fenders
too. Be careful...the maintenance will kill you.
