Pilot Bearing

Al, did you actually do this once?  I have tried it and all it did was
make a mess.  Which would normally be lots of fun, but it wasn't at the
time!  Reason i ask is that this always comes up, as if "everyone knows"
that it works, and yet considering how tightly the bearings seem to have
been in place (the three I've meddled with) I can't see it actually
working.
