I went through the same deal with my '87 5kcstq and have yet to resolve
it. I'm told by my neighbor who is an AC certified full-time
professional mechanic (FWIW) it is a really good idea to remove the
condenser and flush it as best you can with solvent and compressed air
before installing the new compressor. Some here will recall my pleas for
help when mine had the melt-down back in late April/early May. Nope,
still not fixed :(

Any good BTDT advice you all have for William, please post to the list
or cc me on it as well. I'm still thinking about finding a decent
condition one at Pick-N-Pull if I can but would like to fix it right and
be done with it. I need to get it done before winter hits for sure
becuase the compressor is kinda crucial to keeping the windows de-fogged
with a carload of kids full of hot steamy air. My neighbor will help
with his gauges and advice at least once I get the part(s) replaced.
