Hi all,
A week ago to the day, I bought a 1978 Audi 80 GLS automatic in Germany for
DM200 (Dfl 220, and I spent Dfl 150 on transporting it). It was acquired as
a parts car to help in restoring the '78 Fox GTI I hope to bring over here
later this year. Since NOTHING on this car is available from the dealerships
anymore, a DM200 parts car made some sense.
However, it became clear from the outset that this car (having traveled no
more than 53k miles in its 23 years) was too good to strip for parts.
See for yourself at http://www.sls.wau.nl/fstolp/Audi_80/mytype82.html
I now need to source a second (rusty) car as a parts donor, and I fully
intended to keep the first one and bring it to shows occasionally. However,
this morning I was called by the friend who let me keep the car in his
garage for the time being, to tell me he'd gotten an offer of Dfl 800 on the
car from someone who thought it was a shame to strip such a nice car for
parts, too.
Selling the car would solve my storage problems immediately, but I've grown
rather fond of the green horror myself. These cars are almost extinct, and
it really is a nice, unmolested low-mileage specimen.
What would you do?
Regards, Tom
