Why I drive an Audi

My first experience with an Audi was as a salesman for Gile's Porsche/Audi in Louisiana in 1983. I was impressed with the way P/A/VW went out of the way to educate its dealers, sales staff and technicians. Back then and I think even today one does not buy one of these cars for the glitz and glitter that you find with the American cars. People bought it for the quality associated with it and that is what they wanted to emphasize in its sales. I remember the thing that impressed me the most was when the sales staff went to Houston for an Audi/Porsche driving challenge. The corporation had rented part of an airfield and then put on a 3 day course that exposed us to the other cars that the Audi was competing against. It was actually a mini driving course but what a great idea!! Here we would drive one of our cars right to the limit on this course and then hop into a Brand X car right away. What a great way to compare and what an eye opener. The cars of that era that you thought were untouchable were knocked of the top of the hill. They had Mercedes, BMW, Saab along with a slew of American made cars. It really showed Audi's strength in handling and braking even past the limits of the other cars. I knew I had to have one but it was just out of my price range.
Well as time and circumstances have gone on, I was able to purchase one a few years back and then a restorable Urq just last year. Yea, you guys see me asking questions all the time (but I'm learning) but this is one of the reasons I won't give these up soon. The LIST!! It is such a wealth of information and resources and personal help you'll be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Its not a tangible benefit directly from Audi but it makes ownership and maintenance of these cars a lot more interesting and fun.
