5000 tq rear calipers

Hi Jim;
If the rotors aren't shiny, your rear brakes are not working hard enough.
This is a chronic problem with the 5kq & 200q, particularly in the
salt-laden snow belt areas. The only way I could make rear rotors last was
to service the rear calipers every fall, otherwise the rotors would rust out
because the brakes wouldn't wipe them clean. Thankfully the UrS4 doesn't
have this problem - the rear rotors are always nice and shiny :o)
I'd suggest you service your rear calipers. You will probably find
stuck/seized guide pins and sticky e-brake cams. Check the e-brake cables.
If you don't use your e-brake regularly, the rear calipers will not be
adjusted. Sort all that out, install new guide pin boots, and lube the pins
with good synthetic grease. Clean up the pad ears and the pad supports.
Check the proportioning valve by trying to move the lever up and down. If it
is seized, free it up or hork up big $$$ for a new one. If it is stuck, you
won't get much rear brake action.
Barring sticky pistons, this should get the rear brakes back in good
operating condition. Repeat annually - one of the joys of 5k/200 ownership
:o)
