Problems with 84 4KS

My 4KS refuses to run. It starts just fine and runs until the cold start valve closes, 10-15 seconds, and just dies. It will resart almost immediately. This process will repeat with progressively shorter run times. If I let the car set for 10-15 minutes the whole process starts over. I have discovered that the car is not strictly an 84. The engine code is JN and some of the sensors are from 85/87. Any help on what years the JN engine was used woulod be helpful as would any information relating to testing of the various components of the fuel system. I have replaced the fuel pump relay with no discernible effect on the problem. I do not have a Bentley for this car only for 80-83 and find that none of the information appears to be particularly pertinent.
