Sounds like something has fused in your steering column switch. Used 
high-wattage bulbs without relays in the past? My car had similar symptoms 
when I got it, courtesy of the PO. Get a good used switch, they're rather 
expensive items (though on the newer cars like yours, you can split the 
lefthand and righthand side of the unit and replace only the broken 
-lefthand- side).
