I have a similar tale. I was returning from a wedding, and was almost
home. I wanted to get home in time to watch the late local news, so I was
hustling going 67 in a 55 on a country two lane. I come across a Crown
Vic, but it has no visible lights, and no excess antennae, so I pass
him. He immediately starts right on my tail. I look at the clock, and
realize I need to speed up a bit, so I start going about 72. He is still
right on my tail. I then think, well, he hasn't pulled me yet, so I must
be safe. I accelerate to 80. All of a sudden I notice a weird flickering
in his parking light lenses. I think to myself, that looks rather
strange. Then the blue lights came on. Darn, shoot. It was the sheriff
of the county next to mine (in whose county I still was.) He started
asking me all kinds of strange questions, like where did I live, was I
married, any children (I think he was looking to fix up his ugly
daughter?) He finally told me that he was in a hurry for an appointment
and if he had more time he would have written me a ticket. He let me go,
but followed me till I reached the county line.
On a similar note, a woman was riding right in my blind spot on I-40 (4
lanes wide in this area each direction.) Speed up, slow down, no matter
what I did, she was in my blind spot. If I switched lanes, she would
adjust to still be in my blind spot. So I got pissed and floored it. Was
cruising 105 in a 70 in my Nissan Stanza. She did not keep up. As soon as
I got up to speed, I saw a NCHP Trooper approach from the other
direction. Sure enough he turned around right behind me. I went ahead and
pulled over. He sauntered up to the window, and asked if I knew why he
pulled me over. I replied yes, I was speeding, but quickly added the whole
story about the woman riding in my blind spot. I told him I was on my way
to my great-grandmother's funeral (which I was) and I was only planning on
speeding to the next exit, so I could get this dangerous woman out of my
blind spot, then I was going to pull off, refuel, eat, and let her get a
good jump on me so I wouldn't see her again. He let me go with a warning,
quite to my surprise.
