Typically the flash feature has a separate (battery) supply in parallel
with the headlight switched supply. (red wire...)

Now, also typically... your basic underhood fusebox headlight current
goes like this...
Big fat red wire from fusebox to ignition switch - battery 12v
big fat yellow wire from ign. sw. to headlight switch (run only) [this
current then goes via black/yellow to switch the LRR]
big fat white wire from headlight switch to hi/lo flasher switch.
Thence, yellow for lows and white/black for highs goes to the fuse box,
where they run through separate fuses for each side and out tot he
lights.
So I think you may have ignition switch trouble.
