OK this might sound unreasonable but I have been pulled over 22 times in my
driving careener. This includes 4 accidents (some my fault ... some only
technically my fault). The worst was 110 MPH on the Mass Pike (that is a
long story in itself). The only ticket I have had to pay was the first one I
got (rolled a car when I was 16) and I didn't fight it like I should have.
After the first one I have fought and gotten out of any ticket that was
issued to me. Most times I get away with a written warning or the coveted
verbal warning. This incredible streak of luck almost came to an end 2 weeks
ago when I was pulled over by the same cop that gave me a verbal warning
about a month before. He got me doing 55 in a 35 this time and 45 in a 25
last time. Was sure that I was gonna get a ticket but either he has a really
bad memory (90q20v aren't really common around my area) or he just didn't
want to write me up. He even said he appreciated how I pulled right over and
didn't make him chase me (like I had a choice). Once more a verbal warning.
Yes, I did knock on the wood grain at the time.
How do I get away with it?? Well, can't say for sure but this is what I do
when i get nabbed and the cops do seem to really apreciate it.
1. pull over asap... if you can't at least put on your signal to let em know
you are gonna. Helps to put on hasards as well.
2. Hands on the wheel. Don't take em off till they tell you to get the
licence and reg. No sudden moves cause these guys are armed after all and
they don't know you aren't.
3. If at night turn on your dome light as soon as you get over to the side.
Have been told that might be a good idea to take keys out of the ignition and
put em on the dash to show em you aren't going anywhere but haven't tried
this one myself.
4. Be polite as possible. Yes officer sir ect ect.
5. Helps if your car is clean on the inside. If it looks like a trash bin
they are gonna wonder what is in there they can't see.
I just got Amica insurance even though I have been pulled over so many times.
Amica is a low risk carrier and the only reason I could get them is because
every ticket I did get I fought and won. Anyway HTH.
