Tool 2070/1

hmm im not familiar with the tool#'s but i THINK 2070/1 is the tool for
taking the strut shock cartridge out. Essentially its a nut welded onto a
1' long steel tube that you can then put a rachet or breaker bar on. The
nut and tube fits over the shock arm and fits down into the strut allowing
you to loosen the "nut" holding the shock into the strut. I know someone on
the list made their own version of this and I also think it can be rented
from Blau. Worse comes to worse you can always use a large pair of slip
joint pliers to take it off too.

you can get a set of spring compressors at autoparts stores.. they are the
manual kind and you have to be very careful they dont slip off or you will
have air borne springs!!!

Rob,
I'm replacing the strut, strut mount, bearing, ect so the strut is coming
out. I saw this in the Bentley but it doesn't really explain WHAT it is or
is trying to do?

Mike,

What specifically are you redoing? The only special tool you would need
would be a means of popping the tie rod out of the strut, unless your taking
the springs out of your struts, then you would need some sort of spring
compressor. There are of course special tools for doing things like the
wheel bearings ect ect, but all that stuff is easy to work around.

Hi everyone,
I'm planning on redoing my front end this weekend on the 89' 100. I've been
looking at the Bentley and it is referring to a tool 2070/1 that should be
attached to the strut before disassembly (page 40-11 to 40-15 of the
Bentley). I've NEVER heard any of you mention this tool before with all the
front end work you guys do and a search of the archive did not produce any
results. So exactly what is this tool and what is it supposed to do? I
assume it can be worked around. If so, how
