Odd over-boost situation? Any BTDT's?

Taylor,
You can do this one yourself. All you need is an 8mm wrench and a flat
blade screwdriver. Remove the hose from the top of the wastegate cap.
Remove all 6 8mm nuts holding the cap on. Pull the cap out, you MAY have to
disconnect the 3 connectors that are fastened to the firewall right behind
it to get the space to take it out. Once the cap is off, looking at the
wastegate you will see a metal ring looking kinda like an oversized bottle
cap and then under it and around it is a fabric gasket. Thats the wastegate
diaphragm, inspect it for tears. If there is a tear, there are 2 methods of
replacement. One way is to shove a big screwdriver into the wastegate to
hold it from spinning so you can take that center nut out. The other way is
to take the wastegate out of the car and do it on a bench where you have
access to both sides of that nut and bolt. I haven't had any luck doing it
in car, but others have and I have only attempted it one time. Wastegate
removal isnt hard either, there are 3 bolts that hold it to its "downpipe"
to the exhaust, and 4 that hold it to the exhaust manifold. Remove those
and the 1 large fitting on the side with the vacuum hose (19 mm I THINK) and
out it comes.
Good luck
Rob

Thanks for the info... taking a look at the wastegate hose does
nothing. Looks fine.... but too many BTDT's to think it could be anything
else at this point. If that doesn't fix the problem then I work on the
wastegate diaphragm. I'm pretty sure I've gone over most of the vacuum
lines but seeing as how my car won't stall when I remove the oil cap I must
have one somewhere. I guess that will be one for my mechanic to
discover....
