Two interesting litte points:
a) The TravelPilot needs a connection to the reversing light switch and speedometer signal. These connections are made using the
three otherwise unused poles of the ISO connector currently used. To do this you need to add connectors into the empty slots in the
ISO connector. The Audi part number for these is 443 906 232 - my thanks to Christof Bruderer who just co-incidentally gave me four
of these connectors at a UK Area meeting a few weeks back.
b) It also has a separate aerial power connection. I've bought the appropriate Bosvch adapter, but it occurs to me that many
complaints of bad reception might be caused by one of these things being omitted. Many Audi original equipment radios power an
external antenna using the centre (signal) conductor of the aerial cable. If you replace of of these radios with a 'standard' type,
you have to install an adapter to put this power back onto the centre conductor so the electronic aerial will work. In my existing
car, this has not been done and reception is appalling. Bosch part number is 7 691 290 202.
I'm thinking of putting the GPS aerial on the roof, running the lead through the front of the sunroof opening and down the left
(apssenger, in my case) A-pillar.
