Ah...skipping class and reading the audifans archives...could there be a better
life?
Anyways...I've done a fair amount of research on tachs for I-5's, but I'll be
honest...I stopped when I found one.
First off, out of the 'well known brands' there is only one company making an
I5 compatible tach. VDO.
VDO's 'Extreme' tach will work in an I5. It's 5"+ diameter, programable shift
points (internal and external shift lights, as I recall) and a memory feature.
Okay, it's designed as a drag/light-track-use tach...but it will work. Oh yeah,
mega bucks too...in the ball park of $500.
You'll need to make the move to the 'less well known' brands in order to get an
I5 compatible tach in a realistic budget.
I stopped when I stumbled upon the Sun-Pro tachometer. 3.5" diameter, internal
shift light (setable to any point) and _similar_ looks to my stock VDO gauges.
I've been using it for about a year, and I'm more then happy with it. Setable
from 2-24 cylinders as I recall. I bought the tach for $115 Canadian (tax
included I think...) from Canadian Tire. You may be able to mail order from
www.canadiantire.ca
I bought a black face, you can also get it in white. The tach lights up with
white numbers, and an orange needle...but I'm thinking of painting the bulb
with some transparent heat-resistant paint for that 'cool orange glow'.
