Aftermarket stereo in '90 80Q

I was looking for a good cd player for my car and this one seems to fit the
bill (Aiwa CDC-X317):

It fulfills my criteria of being a cd player, having red illumination (in
the catalog it lists it as being able to change between red and blue in
color), and able to have a cd changer hooked up to it - in addition to the
regular category of being relatively inexpensive.

Does anyone have a review of this particular head unit, or Aiwas' in
general? I only have aftermarket experience with Pioneers.

Also, Crutchfield says the installation will require some "special parts".
Exactly what are these parts, what do they do, and how much do they cost?
