A couple of years back, I got stopped in Hudson (the small town
everyone needs to commute through that posts 30 on all roads and
balances it's budget with tickets). The cop told me:

 1) they are not required to lock the reading on
 2) they are not required to show you the reading
 3) it is illegal to leave your car unless ordered to
    by the cop.

So much for having any evidence to mount a defense with. In my
case, it was 40 in a 30 zone, he had me, I paid the $$$. But he
could have said 80 in a 30 zone, and there would have been pretty
much *nothing* I could have done about it.
