92 Audi 100 Spark Plug Tool

I just went down to change the spark plugs and discovered my spark plug
socket will not fit through a pre hole  in order to access the plug.  Is
there a special tool need for the 92 100 series, or will the spare tire
socket work to also remove the spark plugs as it does on the older Audis.  I
will have to try that tomorrow night if no one has an answer.
