Driver's door lock

You don't say what car, but many of the middle-aged models had a
sub-standard door lock mechanism. The alarm switch is a separate
thing on the cylinder. The lock mechanism is a metal fork that
actually moves the door locks. It breaks pretty easily.

Repair is a few $ and a little time to disassemble the door panel
if you're into detail work like that. If not, an easy fix at a shop.
BTW, Audi has an "upgraded" replacement part. Any dealer knows what
you're talking about when you tell them what happened.
