Right, that's the problem with the 5 cylinder application, its not easily
divisible by 2 (the cam rotates twice for the cranks every once). But, as
you mention, a circuit can be created so that the end output is 5 pulses per
crank revolution.
I want to emphasize we are getting into the scope of diminishing returns,
however. What factory systems do is really beyond the concern of the
average, or even above average racer or street enthusiast. 034efi counts 5
pulses per revolution to determine injector firing times and RPM-it does not
control ignition, that is the job of the factory ECU. Using the 5 window
distributor, with the inconsistensies of the cam-belt, is not *optimal* for
accurate ignition timing, but then again, coil fire ignition is more accurate
than any distributor system out there. Audi Sport had no trouble putting out
over 500hp in the TransAm cars, yes, with ignition distributors.
One ride in my 80tq would convince you that this whole topic is really of
little overall concern anyway =)

Nevermind, duh. closed intake valve = no problem. Guess you could use the
crank as a signal but um... you'd need 2.5 pins? So I suppose digital logic
along with the hall sender would be necessary to say, use five pins with a
divider circuit?
