HID upgrade

Hi Lee;
The OEM HID capsule mounting systems are completely different from the H1
mounts and too large to fit into the H1 hole. You'd have to remove the
capsule from the mount and bodge (I love that word - the English have a way
with the language) it onto a H1 mount. This is what Hidkits does - the
capsule is glued into a metal sleeve soldered onto a H1 mounting plate. You
have to make sure the HID arc is in the same place as the filament of the H1
bulb or your beam pattern will be less than optimal. The better kits mould a
plastic H1 base directly on the HID capsule.
You could indeed replicate the Hidkits H1 capsule yourself with a bit of
care and a home-made jig. Make sure you get the older HID system with the
igniter in the ballast, not the newer system with the igniter integrated
into the capsule base. For all the trouble, though, it may be less costly
to buy the kit.
