Hi All,

Well, it has been about 4 weeks since I tackled the alternator on my '84 4K=
Q. To recap, I started by loosening all the connections to clean them and =
ended up breaking the main pos bolt out of the alternator and it got worse =
from there.

After a couple mis-haps with part numbers not cross referencing to the corr=
ect alternator I needed, I was ready to plunk down some serious coin for a =
Bosch rebuild...UNTIL...

I was surfing on the web and did a stupid search for "god damn stupid *ucki=
ng alternator for a dumb-ass 1984 Audi 4000 Quattro" (or something like tha=
t) and all of a sudden I could see the light. It came in the form of http:=
//www.autoexpress.safeshopper.com These guys really helped me in my time o=
f need. I talked to one of the guys on the phone for a while and they real=
ly seem to know what they are doing. Check out their website and you will =
see that their pricing is VERY attractive.

I received the alternator yesterday and tonight I put it in. It is an OE Bo=
sch rebuild with a non-Bosch regulator/brushpack-seems like a very good qua=
lity rebuild. I just got back from my test drive and I am putting out abo=
ut 14+ volts and my H4's and H1's (No, I do not have the euro twin-beam se=
tup) have NEVER looked brighter. The 'ol quat just seems really happy now=
. I just wanted to share this experience and let everyone know that you d=
o not have to shell out $200+ for a good Bosch rebuilt alternator(my cost a=
fter the core refund will be $95!!!). Thier starter prices seem pretty goo=
d too but that will be another story...

Later all,
Carl
