1) My car seems to have developed a noise which seem sot be related to
it's stumbling under acceleration There's a whirring sound coming from
either the rear od the engine or from the bell housing. It occurs only
after the car has been run (even for short time). Mostly at idle.

Does not change even if the clutch is depressed or left out.

Goes away when the car is driving forwards (tension under load) sometimes
comes back (rather quietly, but hard to hear over the sm=now tires) on
over-run.

Noise especially noticeable when pulling to a stop. Weird thing. If you
shut the engine off, and restart immediately, the noise is gone on
restart. Takes a making the car go in motion to get it to reappear,
usually after a couple of hundred yards (meters).

2) What are the symptoms of a clogged cat (converter, the animal would
probably just not use the litterbox for days on end) ? Would the symptoms
be intermittent, at least early on? Would they be worse cold or warm?

JUST when I thought I had the car running correctly, it's choosing to
really screw up. I'm not happy and am concerned about it's reliability
right now.
