Does the 90q have the in-dash air temperature aspirator fan for the climate
control system as in the Type 44 with the automatic CC system?  If so, your
howling may be the motor for the fan that sucks cabin air past the sensor
to help the CC decide whether to let in more heat or more cool.  I've
managed to quiet down this howling by spraying a lubricant (I used a spray
that incorporates teflon) through the grille in the dash.
