I put my changer on the side of the shifter console at the annoying spot
where your passenger always likes to stick his/her left knee in your 5th
gear. This way I have access to the changer from the captains seat and it
blocks unwanted knees from being in the way of my cruise gear.
Unfortunately it is also in the obvious line of sight for theives. I just
keep a jacket handy and throw it across the shift console whenever I'm in a
high risk area.

I have a 12 disk Pioneer changer in the spare tire
rim, held in place with a ratchet tie-down wrapped
around the tire. I think this is the best place
because the changer is protected in the trunk area and
it was wasted space. I still have not come up with
something to use as a permanent way to hold the
changer in place.
I also considered the knee shelf, and removing the
wood panel from above the glove box and putting it
behind there with a hinge to allow me access and also
the underside of the package shelf.
If you are using a 6-disk changer, it might fit
perfectly in the knee shelf and it would be easy to
change the cartridge. There wasn't enough room behind
the dash for the second option and the last place I
was considering was quickly ruled out also. I would
no longer be able to remove the package shelf and the
package area is small enough without any help from me.
