What's the Scoop on the VW Passat V6 4 Motion?

The Passat 4Motion is quattro IV- exact same setup as
on the A4. Dual mufflers as per the A6 2.8.

Saw one this afternoon and noticed the 2 mufflers on each side.  Does
4Motion mean 4x4 or AWD?  What's the deal?
