I happen to have parents that own a foundry and have looked into producing
some sort of performance ductile iron header for the 10V audi engine but
unfortunatley the initial costs are extremely high (about 50K for pattern
work, test castings and heat cycling). Even a simple copy of Audi's multi
piece exhaust manifold would have cost about 8K making it less lucrative than
investing in ocean front property in Montana.
