Hi Y'all,
Thanks for the several who offered help with getting the seat out of my '95
S6. Once the front Allen head retaining bolts were found (uncovered) the
job was a piece of cake. The hardest part was actually getting the seat
out of and back into the car.
Time to complete: 4 hours (including about 3 hours spent asking about the
removal of the seat and waiting for responses). Knowing what I now know I
could probably do the job again in an hour or less.
1 Remove seat (unplugging the various electrical connectors).
2. Slip leather knee bolster extension cover out of its retaining bracket
and peel it back to expose the hog rings (3 of 'em) holding the front of
the seat cushion down.
3. Pry the hog rings open and slip them around to free the cushion cover at
the front edge.
4. Peel back the cover to expose the burnt spot caused by the broken wire.
5. Solder the two ends back together. Ordinary rosin core solder flows
nicely on the wire. Dunno what the heating element wire is but the solder
"takes".
6. Put the cover back on and reconnect the hog rings and close them back up
with pliers.
7. Reconnect the edges of covers into their various retainers
8. Put the seat back in the car.
