Carbon Wheels

I can't see how carbon-fiber would be good for wheels. I was always told
carbon-fiber was good for holding loads, very bad at handling shock(ie, it
is brittle.) That would obviously be a VERY bad quality for a rim,
especially for rallying. Or have I got this one wrong?
I have some serious doubts on this. It looks to me like its just for show.
Look at the whole magnesium fiasco...
"they're super light!"
<part of wheel goes flying off...>
"now it's even lighter, what are you complaining about?!"
