I'm not sure what either of you guys are talking about, but when I think of
sequential shift, I think of a constant mesh sequential gearbox, like those
used in motorcycles or race cars. These are manual transmissions, not
automatics. For race applications the clutch and the operating lever are
often automated, but they are for all intents and purposes manual gearboxes.
The Tiptronic is nothing more than a fancy column lever on an essentially
normal automatic transmission.
To see a real sequential automotive geabox, put on the drool cup first, then

What exactly does this mean to you?
I looked up a definition and got the following:
Sequential shift - often described as a "Tiptronic-style" automatic,
after
Porsche's pioneering system. It is simply an automatic transmission
that
gives the driver the ability, if desired, to move up and down
through each
gear sequentially. It is not a euphemism for a clutchless manual,
which
dispenses with a clutch pedal (the clutch is controlled
electronically) but
in most other respects it operates as a manual transmission.
