The "dash fan" in Type 44 Audis (5K, 100, 200, V8) is an aspiration
(sucking) fan to pull air past one of two cabin air temperature sensors
used by the climate control system to keep you comfy. I managed to quiet
down a squealing aspirator fan by spraying some lubricant through the
grille in the dash, using one of those long delivery tubes. For details on
replacement, see Scott Mockry's resourceful
website: http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/AC.html#aspir
