according to the F.I.A. technical regulations,
Article 12: Wheels and Tyres

12.3 Wheel material :
All wheels must be made from an homogeneous metallic material.

the way to go, why are they not used in F1, etc.? (Could be a banned
material...I do not know.) Works good for brakes, but recall back to the
fail mode of early carbon on carbon brakes in race cars (hint, they
exploded and shunted cars). Composites are amazing materials, but
composite engineers are still learning about longevity I have a feeling.
