This technique is a almost exclusively a gravel, and snow process which
requires the maintenance of a considerable amount of power when combined
with a Quattro. The O'Neil Rally School in NH teaches it with a 4000Q
amongst other vehicles and there is a need for plenty of room to sample this
technique. You should not let off the gas, but use the brake to transfer
weight onto the front wheels without losing forward momentum.
Simultaneously you need to move the wheel in the direction of the turn
releasing the brake just before the nose points at the apex. The J turn can
be initiated by turning the wheel initially way from the direction you want
to go while under LFB, and then as you release, hit the gas and then swing
the wheel quickly in the direction of the turn.
The physics are quite obvious when you see it done, but mastering this with
the Quattro is considerably more difficult than front wheel drive as the
Audi team discovered in 1982/3.
