DTE-13M is not the same as Pentosin 11S(important)

The sky is not falling. Since (according to Audi's own bulletin) 7.1 and
11S are interchangeable (see below before arguing), compatibility with
7.1 is all that's needed. The initial posts were from a lister who got
the info from a lubrication engineer who checked the working specs. I
doubt that Mobil has changed the specs since then, but it's possible.
Anecdotal evidence suggests they are compatible. There are at least 5
V8Q listers (not counting my 2) using the DTE with no ill effects, and a
few other 44's on and off the Qlist. I tried it first in the 5KS, and
after no ill effects started using it on the rest of the fleet. Using it
to top off already leaking systems has not exacerbated the leaks either.

If you check the archived posts, it was never said that it was the "same"
as the green gold, but the specs close enough to make it interchangeable.

As for any reported ill effects, the first time I flushed the 5KS with
the correct Pentosin green gold many moons ago, the rack started leaking,
after which the pump let go, after which a line or three started leaking,
after which the bomb died. Should have left it alone I guess, since the
crud in the system was holding everything together. The weakest point in
the system will leak, once fixed, the next weakest point will make itself
known. Neither the Pentosin nor the DTE is pixie dust that will bring
back a system that's leaking or on it's way out.

It seems to me that a comparison with the working specs of the actual
system is a more valid tool than just between the two fluids. Given the
propensity to fail, one could conclude that 7.1 and 11S are probably not
what should be in there either....

Here is the official word from Audi on the 7.1 and 11S compatibility:

AUDI TSB reference Bulletins thru 1993 (issued Oct 1994)
Audi tech bulletin 48-89-T07, Nov '89 (EXACTLY QUOTED)
"HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FLUID - NEW TYPE
Hydraulic system fluid has been improved as of M.Y. 1990

New: Hydraulic Fluid, part number unchanged.
This fluid is more temperature resistant
 Color: Olive

Old: Hydraulic Fluid, PN 002 000
 Color: Green

The new hydraulic fluid can be identified by the RED cap on
 the container

Note: New and old hydraulic fluid can be mixed if necessary"
 --------------------------------------------------------------

Do NOT mix either 7.1 or 7.11 mineral oil in audi hydraulic
systems which call for "Dexron Automatic Transmission Fluid". The ATF
hydraulic systems are usually identified by the metal resevoir, the
mineral oil 7.1
and 7.11s hydraulic systems are usually identified by the plastic
resevoir. ATF
application are usually found on the older 4000, Urq and pre
84 hydraulic systems (USA). The 7.1 non synthetic mineral oil fluid is
usually found in all 1984> 1989 audi 500/200 cars (USA) The new 7.11
fluid is
found from the factory in some M.Y. 1990 audis, and all 1991> audis.
Given
the better heat resistant characteristics of the 7.11s (synthetic
mineral
oil) fluid, it is the preferred fluid for all audi applications
specifying G 00
2 000 mineral oil hydraulic fluid.

If you have any questions regarding the application for your
specific car, please consult either your owners manual, the label on
your
 resevoir, or your audi dealer.
