Here's the maintenace procedure to avoid breaking 5K door handles...

Remove door panel, get in there and lube EVERY pivot point in the locking
mechanism.  The entire mechanism and all the linkage moves when you lock or
unlock the door as well as when you pull on the handle.  Over time gunk
builds up on the pivot points, lube wears off or hardens,  and the resistance
to movement builds.

This is simple and costs practically nothing - I use white lithium grease
with a spray nozzle tube to get it in the right spots.  The reduction in
force needed to release the door handle is amazing.

And if you DON'T do it, you WILL end up replacing the 5K door handles sooner
or later.
