Probably not needed.  Brendan's top and bottom gasket sets had all sorts
of strange, useless gaskets.  I suspect it's so you could rebuild any
version of the engine from one set.  Actually, if one end is a smooth
curve, it does sound a little bit like a vacuum pump gasket.
