probably, sort of - it tells the ecu if the engine is cold/warm/hot.
though don't take my word on that, CIS-turbo is not really my area of
expertise. Some might ask, well, what is, then? Hmmmm.... I do know
the names of a lot of colors!
> What about the big scary temp sender under the coolant pipe?
those go bad routinely, they drive the coolant temp gauge, the overheat
warning (same circuit?) and tell the A/C if the engine is too hot.
> Is there a thermo-time-switch on this car?
if it has a cold start valve it should have one. usually a two pin
connector in the back of the head. But I'm not sure, on the MC.

frequency valve duty cycle? at warm idle it should fluctuate around
50%, but some set it a little rich to help make things a bit richer when
cold and at WOT - that would mean a slightly lower duty cycle. again, I
may be wrong here too, regarding the MC engine...
> Is the Bentley manual really that much better than the Haynes?
Yes. It's like having an encyclopaedia instead of a pocket dictionary.
The Haynes does take up less space, and often will seem to have
information relating to your car - just enough to screw you up.
