Intake boot leak result?

you are correct more air will go into the engine...
but the point of the boot is to pull the air through the metering plate to
lift the plate and
give your engine more fuel. that is how your fuel distribution works, plate
lifts more fuel, lowers, less.
air leaks will cause the plate to not lift as it should causing a lean mixture.
