any sage advice before my first timing belt removal on V6?

Howdy,
So I'm about to take off the timing belt on my '95 90Q in order to change out the
water pump and thermostat. The belt itself was recently replaced at the shop so it
still should be in good shape, but the other items didn't get taken care of.
Anyhow, I'm just hoping to avoid any pitfalls or common blunders so any BTDT tips
would be great.
I've got the special tools from Blau and the Bentley. As far as I can tell from the
directions, the timing belt sprocket tool (the long, bent metal bar) is just used to
hold the sprockets in position while you torque the nuts tight or loose - is that
right? Also, the manual describes a specific puller tool to be used on the
sprockets if the engine is still in the car, which I hope will remain the case.
Blau didn't include that puller tool so will a standard gear puller work or is there
some other way? Blau DID include a crank seal remover/installer tool, but as far as
I can tell that doesn't apply here.
Well, here goes. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding of anything
here and feel free to throw me any pointers. Thanks,
Joel
