For the Italian touring car series, they wanted the 16v in that. After
that, they used the same cars in the DTM. The result was very nice: lowered
sports suspension, 5-spoke alloys (of a very handsome design, reminiscent
of some Porsche alloys), quattro script upholstery on sports seats, dash
with the three dials in the centre console, free-standing rear spoiler and
an S2-like (but actually different) front bumper with spoiler lip. I've
seen a number of these with front strut bars, so I assume these were either
an option or standard issue for some time. As far as I can ascertain, the
Competition was available in black, red, dark green metallic and silver.
I've been looking at those cars for years now, and if it hadn't been for
the 16v I would've bought one.
Not too common, though. Though no-one seems to know what these cars are,
the sporty specs have kept prices up in general.

I think the rules said 2.0 max. I'll look through my literature to see if I
can find the specs.
I've got a few (though not very good, bad lighting) shots of an 80
Competition which I could scan, also.
