Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd let you know of a '91 200TQ at a dealership just down the
street (100 feet) from me. They've got a 130K mile, pearl colored, bone
stock 20v there, for $4950. I took it for a drive back when I thought I'd
be able to sell my rally car easily, and it drove quite well. Lotsa power,
but it does have a few issues. I smelled coolant in the heater, so plan on
a heater core. The brakes were squishy and flakey, so I suspect it needs
an MC or bomb or something. The speedo doesn't work well, nor do the power
locks. The turbo guage was only showing 1.3 BAR, and it did seem very
slightly down on power compared to an identical (but very well maintained)
car that my dad has, but it wasn't burning oil or making any turbo
whine...seemed very likely just to be some vacuum lines. Slight vibration
at speed in the wheel. Clean exterior save for a couple of small dents at
the back of the roof like someone dropped something on it. PERFECT
interior. Still has UFO's, stock wheels, etc.
The dealer is selling it at $4950 w/ a warranty OR will knock that price
down _A LOT_ (Much less than $4000 probably) if you're willing to buy it
without a warranty and do the work yourself. He WILL fix the brakes before
selling it, as he doesn't want to get sued, so I guess that's not an issue.
It appears to be a car that has been neglected as the PO started looking
at new cars, but without any major mechanical issues. The dealer bought it
off an Audi dealer wholesale because the PO bought an A6 2.7T and the Audi
dealer didn't want to move this particular car. I drove it, and DAMN is it
fast. :) It would be a shame to see a non-audi person buy it.
They also have a really nice (what looks to be grey market) older 535i in
there, too, but I think its sold.
The dealership is easy to find...at the intersection of north harvard and
western ave in Allston, take western ave away from boston (and the VW
dealer near there). The dealership is on your left at the next light...at
riverside (riverdale?) and western ave. If you take riverside down another
hundred feet, you'll be staring almost directly at my apartment (and my
4KCS rally car). Give me a call at 617-782-9115 for better directions if
you're from out of town.
Prerequisite to buying this car is taking me and my girlfriend out to
dinner, because you'll be STEALING this car off the lot thanks to me.
Okay, maybe not dinner, but you've at least got to stop in and say hello.
While you're here, you can go to the Aston dealership nearby...last time I
was down there they had an old restored gullwing mercedes, a restored MG
Midget, a couple of new Esprit V8's, Astons, etc...
