Scott,
My comments interspersed below:

What influenced your decision to choose the engine you did?

*primarily cost- the 2.8 was much more expensive

Do you think you made the right decision?

*yes- I love the 1.8T engine and it's easy tunability

What's your favorite characteristic of the engine you selected?

	*ease of increasing power output

What's your least favorite?

*need to shift gears in order for it to make power- the 2.8
is more effortless in making power and can be lugged (although it shouldn't)

Do you have any modifications (chip, bigger turbo, intercooler, exhaust,
etc.)? Do you wish you did? Do you wish you hadn't made some of the mods
you have?

*chip, K&N air filter, Borla exhaust, H&R coilovers, Mintex brake
pads, 17" wheels, boost gauge. Don't regret any of the mods- they were all
worth it, although the H&R coilovers are a bit too stiff for everyday use
on northeast roads- too bad there isn't any adjustability in the damping
settings

Completely aside from the engine discussion: what's your favorite thing
about the A4? Least favorite? First thing you'd change (or first thing you
did)?

*favorite- the handling- it's a great handling little car, with the utility
unmatched by most cars in its class (we have an Avant) and a unique look to
it

*least favorite- the seats- the stock seats are not very comfortable. They
lack lumbar support and thigh support, making long trips uncomfortable. In
terms
of big mods, Recaro seats and Porsche brakes are the two things I'd add

Let me say finally that in my preferences, I prefer the A6 2.7T over the
A4/S4.
The A4 is a bit too small to carry rear passengers comfortably, the
wheelbase is
a bit too short to make highway travel relaxing, so it is more of a city
car.
For long trips, I prefer the 200q vastly.
