Once again, I must bow to the collective wisdom of this group. "Hours" of
work were miraculously transformed into "minutes" as I only needed to
remove, unplug, and reinstall the rear lighter socket.
Sorry, Andrew! Unlike recent posts, I'm not giving out any new S8s for
getting it right...

Dimes to donuts it's the rear cigarette lighter. Common failure,
apparently. That was the cause on my '89 100Q. The lighter socket
assembly pops out of the plastic vent housing, and you can just
unplug it.

Mileage has nothing to do with airbag sensors. I'd get someone to look
at this for you. Could be a failed sensor, or an electrical malfunction.
