CGT stalling

Hi list,

Since yesterday my 1985 CGT 2.2 has developed a really weird
problem. Starting is next to impossible and when doing so, I smell
strong petrol fumes from the exhaust, like the engine is flooding.

Now, the car is equipped with a propane gas installation. I can
manually switch to lpg. Starting on lpg is very difficult (this is
normal), but it runs fine. So no ignition problems.

Cleaned al contacts of the lpg system yesterday, since they were
corroded and might prevent the switch back to petrol. Everything
ran fine for a while. I could switch from lpg to petrol and back - so
the fuel pump and the injectors are all fine, smooth revving to
redline here on both fuel types.

An hour later, the problem was back. This morning too... took ages
to start on lpg and once it did, a terrible petrol-smelling cloud drifted
by, indicating an engine that was completely flooded... weird. I park
it, rev it to 4000, switch back to petrol and it completely dies.

Just a few minutes ago, I suspected the fuel pump relay. Pulled it
and without the relay, the car starts perfectly on petrol like it
should, but dies within a few seconds. I'm gonna try swapping the
relay as soon as I find another one. Could it be the source of my
problem?

*stunned*
