Nope.
The 30valve V6 was introduced in 1998, in both the A4 and A6, along with
the Tiptronic transmission. The 1997 automatic transmission was
basically the same mechanicals, with less computer control.
I've heard that the A6 Avant retained the 12valve motor, as it was still
the "old" style body, but I could be wrong.
