melting headlight switch on 4000

When I was "surfing" Audifans.com archives for advice on fixing the
headlight switch in one of my 4kq's, which had the wiring harness connector
melted onto the switch body so that I had to splice in new harness wires
with new metal ends (just try finding THOSE) for the new connector to
connect to the new switch, I read the real culprits were the wires going
to the back of the car rather than to the headlights. My meltdown was in
the several (was it three) wires side-by-side in the middle of the harness
end. Anyone know where those wires go and how to relay them?
