Todd,
My alt. died a few days ago and only needed brushes.
> My Alt doesn't kick on untill I rev it up to 2,500 RPM.
Pull the regulator first to see it contact is being made by the brushes.

I had to rev the engine after recharging battery for a couple of minutes

till the brushes seated properly.
Regulator was $30-35.00 with new brushes. "Rebuilt" from local parts
stores was $129-$300 plus a day or two for delivery from warehouse.
I would considering buying Avi Meron's 130a 14.8v unit when mine truly
dies.
$200 is a lot of money but a bargain for the gain.

Dennis

P.S. One of the odd symptoms I had was that the tach needle would
point from idle of 1000rpm to 3500rpm when I pushed the "up" side
of window switch. Then I notice volt meter in the red.
